The Los Angeles Dodgers are on a historic run, while the Colorado Rockies are chasing the wrong kind of history.
Los Angeles (96-59) clinched a playoff berth for the 11th straight season, which includes 10 NL West Division titles, and has a Chance to win 100 games for the fourth straight season and fifth in the last six full seasons.
With four games in Colorado this week, the Dodgers can reach the century mark by Thursday.
The teams advance to the Final on Tuesday with a split double header. Los Angeles will have a first down in game one with Ryan Pepiot (2-1, 1.91 ERA) going several innings at one point. Rookie right-hander Bobby Miller (10-4, 3.97 era) will start the nightcap.
The Rockies (56-99) did not name a Starter for both games.
The Dodgers have taken the top two spots in the NL playoffs, which means they will say goodbye in the first round and start the divisional series at home in October. 7.they are four games behind Atlanta for first place in the NL, so last week remains an incentive.
Los Angeles comes out at home with a score of 5-2 completed by the San Francisco Giants by three points out of four to effectively end their rival’s chances of a Wildcard spot. The Dodgers finished 2023 with a 53-28 home record and finished the season with seven road games.
“I think for us, we keep trying to play good Baseball and win games. Go for it,” said Chris Taylor, who delivered an RBI single in the 10th inning Sunday night to defeat San Francisco. “I’m trying to enter the playoffs on a positive note.”
Miller snuck into the postseason rotation, although he didn’t make his major league debut until the end of May. He will face the Rockies for the first time.
Cologne should be motivated. The Rockies were swept on the road this weekend in a three-game series against the Chicago Cubs and need to win to avoid their first 100-loss season. The 99 losses are a franchise record.
After four games against Los Angeles, the Rockies finish the schedule by hosting the Minnesota Twins for a three-game weekend series. Colorado raised the white flag at the trade deadline, switched experienced players for future prospects and has since fielded a young team.
